History & Significance

In the weeks after Glenfruin, the Colquhouns brought their widows before James VI in a theatrical petition, carrying the bloodied shirts of the slain. The king ordered the entire MacGregor clan proscribed, their chief Alasdair MacGregor hanged. This chain of events set the MacGregors outside the law for nearly two centuries, making their story unique in Scottish clan history.
