Scotney Castle in the Weald of Kent was used as a minor Royalist garrison or refuge in 1643 during the period when Royalist forces attempted to maintain a presence in the Kentish Weald. The moated castle provided cover for Royalist sympathisers operating between Sussex and the Thames.
