History & Significance

William Herbert, now Earl of Pembroke, conducted a systematic campaign across south Wales in 1462 to root out Lancastrian sympathisers and assert Yorkist authority. Several Welsh gentry families that had supported the Lancastrian cause were brought before Herbert and compelled to submit, pay fines, or forfeit their lands. Armed patrols swept through Glamorgan and Carmarthenshire.
