Incline Haulage Systems, Cefn Ynysfeio, Treherbert is a post-medieval and modern industrial drumhouse associated with the coal mining operations of the Rhondda Valley in South Wales. The structure dates from the period of intensive coal extraction in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, when such mechanical systems were essential to the transport of coal from pit heads to lower ground level or connecting railways. The drumhouse housed the winding gear and associated haulage machinery that powered the inclined tramway or railway serving the colliery workings. As a designated scheduled monument, it represents significant surviving evidence of South Wales' industrial heritage and the technological infrastructure that underpinned the region's coalfield economy during its period of maximum expansion and productivity.
