History & Significance

Leven's Scots, after the capitulation at Carlisle, moved south and besieged Hereford. The city had been the key Royalist base for the western Marches. Its fall in September 1645 handed the western Midlands to Parliament. The garrison was allowed to march out on honourable terms.
