Carew Castle in Pembrokeshire, one of the finest Elizabethan-adapted castles in Wales, was held as a Royalist garrison. Its surrender was part of the Parliamentary consolidation of Pembrokeshire in 1645 before the major campaign that would culminate in the Second Civil War siege of Pembroke itself.
