History & Significance

Following the Rhuddlan raid, Harold and his brother Tostig conduct a two-pronged land campaign through Gwynedd and Wales to destroy Gruffudd ap Llywelyn. Harold marches through Snowdonia in summer while Tostig raids from Mercia. Welsh princes eventually turn on Gruffudd, who is killed by his own men in August 1063.
