The Battle

History & Significance

Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire was seized for Parliament at the outset of the Civil War and served as an important base guarding the road from London northward. Royalist forces from Oxford repeatedly raided toward Aylesbury in 1642-43 and the garrison cavalry clashed with Royalist horse in the surrounding Vale of Aylesbury. The town withstood all Royalist pressure.
