The Battle

History & Significance

The MacGregors ambushed and slaughtered a Colquhoun force of twice their size. So many prisoners and bystanders were killed that King James VI proscribed the entire MacGregor clan — making it illegal to even bear the name. Clan Gregor would remain outlawed for nearly 200 years. The site is on the west side of Loch Lomond.
