The Battle

History & Significance

In 1644 Parliamentary forces moved again on Gainsborough as the Eastern Association consolidated Lincolnshire following Winceby and Lincoln. The town was finally secured for Parliament in 1644 as the Royalist position in Lincolnshire collapsed. Parliamentary control of the Trent crossing at Gainsborough was thereafter maintained.
