The Battle

History & Significance

William Wallace and Andrew Murray destroyed a far larger English army as it crossed Stirling Bridge. The English vanguard was cut off and annihilated. Cressingham's skin was reportedly cut into pieces and distributed as souvenirs. The victory made Wallace a national hero and Guardian of Scotland. Murray died of his wounds shortly after.
