The Battle

History & Significance

The MacDonald role in the defeat of the MacDougalls extended to the Inverlochy area where Angus Og MacDonald secured Bruce control of the western approaches to the Great Glen. With MacDougall power broken at Brander and Dunstaffnage, the Inverlochy position became key to MacDonald expansion northward. Control of the Inverlochy area gave MacDonalds access to the sea-lochs of the western mainland north of Ardnamurchan.
