History & Significance

A large Danish Viking force defeated the Picts and killed their king Constantine I. The defeat was catastrophic for the Picts — already weakened by decades of Viking raids, they would soon merge with the Scots of Dál Riata under Kenneth MacAlpin's line to form the Kingdom of Alba.
