Olaf the White, Norse king of Dublin, led raids deep into the Irish interior using Lough Ree on the Shannon. By the 850s Dublin had become the primary Norse base in Ireland, with Olaf and Ivar the Boneless ruling it jointly. Their combined raids reached from Munster to Ulster.
