The Battle

History & Significance

On 14 May 1471 the Bastard of Fauconberg launched a three-pronged assault on London. The Aldgate attack was the most penetrating — Kentish rebels actually entered the city through the gate before the gates were closed and the defenders under Robert Basset sallied and drove them back into the street.
