History & Significance

The Simnel army passed through or near Masham in the North Riding on its march south from Lancashire into the Vale of York. Masham and the surrounding area were within Percy and Scrope influence zones where lingering Yorkist sympathy was strong. Henry Percy Earl of Northumberland failed to intercept the march.
