Ine of Wessex and Ceolred of Mercia fought at Wanborough or Woden's Barrow on the Berkshire Downs in 715. The two kings clashed over the Thames valley frontier between their kingdoms. The battle was indecisive in the long term but demonstrated that Wessex could resist Mercian pressure even in Æthelberht's reign.
