A night dummy aerodrome control building is a World War II decoy structure located northeast of Walby Cottage in Cumberland. The building served as part of a dummy aerodrome constructed during the Second World War to divert enemy bombing raids away from operational airfields. Such decoy sites, known as Q-sites or starfish sites, were equipped with mock installations and lighting systems to simulate active military airfields and draw Luftwaffe attacks to decoys rather than genuine RAF stations. This particular control building survives as physical evidence of Britain's air defence strategy during the war years.
