Antonine Wall, fortlet and camp 130m ESE to 930m NE of The Stables is a complex of Roman military installations situated in Lanarkshire, Scotland. The site comprises elements of the Antonine Wall, the northernmost frontier of the Roman Empire in Britain, constructed around 142 CE under the emperor Antoninus Pius and maintained for approximately two decades. The fortlet and associated camp represent typical Roman auxiliary installations designed to control and defend this strategic frontier line, with the structures positioned to monitor movement across the landscape. The archaeological remains, now largely subsurface, form part of the substantial and remarkably preserved Antonine Wall system that extends across central Scotland for approximately 37 miles between the Forth and Clyde estuaries.
