Branthat Plantation is an enclosed settlement located 320 metres south-east of Gill in Dumfriesshire, Scotland. The site lies on bedrock of the Yoredale Group, a Carboniferous sequence of interbedded limestone, argillaceous rocks and subordinate sandstone that gives the landscape its characteristic geology. This underlying strata influenced both the settlement's situation and the materials available for construction in this upland region.
The monument comprises the earthworks of an enclosed settlement, a settlement type common across the Scottish Borders and northern England during the Iron Age and Romano-British period.
