Broomholmshiels is a post-medieval farmstead located approximately one kilometre east of Closeburn in Dumfriesshire, Scotland. The site occupies land underlain by sandstone, siltstone and mudstone of the Inverclyde Group, sedimentary rocks deposited during the Carboniferous period. This locally available stone would have provided ready material for the construction and repair of farm buildings and associated structures typical of rural settlement in the region during the sixteenth century onwards.
