Donald's Isle is a settlement site located on the shore of Loch Doon in Ayrshire, Scotland, approximately 750 metres south-south-west of Lamdoughty Farm. The site rests upon bedrock of the Kirkcolm Formation, a wacke deposit dating to the Caradocian period, which provides a solid foundation typical of this glacially-carved loch environment in South Ayrshire.
The settlement occupies a strategic position on the loch margin, where such waterside locations were favoured for early occupation. The underlying geology of hard, resistant wacke would have offered stable ground for settlement construction whilst also providing accessible stone for building. The loch itself would have been vital for fishing and water supply, as well as facilitating communication and transport across the landscape.
The site is protected as a scheduled monument under Historic Environment Scotland reference SM8616, recognising its importance to understanding settlement patterns in medieval and early modern Ayrshire.
