Latheronwheel House is a Iron Age promontory fort situated approximately one kilometre south-east of Latheronwheel in Caithness, northern Scotland. The site occupies a naturally defensible headland position and is defined by substantial earthwork defences characteristic of Iron Age coastal fortifications. The fort dates to the Iron Age period and represents the settlement and defensive strategies employed by communities in this remote region of northern Britain during the first millennium before the common era. Such promontory forts were strategically positioned to exploit natural geographical advantages whilst maintaining access to maritime resources.
