Lyddington Bedehouse is a medieval bishop's palace that served as a residence for the bishops of Lincoln during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, subsequently converted into an almshouse or bedehouse in the post-medieval period. The surviving structures include a substantial stone building of medieval construction, whilst the wider site retains evidence of its former domestic and agricultural functions in the form of a moat, gardens, fishponds and cultivation remains. The transformation from episcopal residence to charitable institution reflects the changing fortunes and priorities of its ecclesiastical owners, with the bedehouse providing accommodation for the poor and infirm under religious oversight. The monument and its surrounding landscape features remain significant evidence of both high medieval ecclesiastical administration and post-medieval charitable provision in Rutland.
