Midtown is a post-medieval farmstead and associated field systems located approximately 800 metres south-east of Kincardineshire in north-east Scotland. The monument comprises the physical remains of agricultural settlement and land division dating from the sixteenth century onwards, representing the farming practices and settlement patterns that developed following the medieval period in this region. The site sits upon bedrock composed of an unnamed igneous intrusion of felsic rock, formed during the Silurian period and now weathered into productive farmland.
The field systems visible across the landscape demonstrate the organisation of arable and pastoral land typical of post-medieval Scottish farming communities. These enclosed or partially enclosed fields would have supported the subsistence and commercial activities of the farming household, with boundaries often defined by stone dykes or earthen banks suited to the underlying geology and local building traditions.
The site is protected as a scheduled monument under Historic Environment Scotland's reference SM4817, recognising its importance in understanding the development of rural settlement and agricultural practice in early modern Kincardineshire.
