Monktonhall Junction is a Neolithic cursus monument located approximately 150 metres north of Whitecraig in Midlothian, Scotland. The site consists of a linear earthwork bounded by parallel ditches and banks, a characteristic feature of cursus monuments which are among the earliest ceremonial structures in Britain, typically dating to the Neolithic period around 3500 to 2500 BC. Such monuments are thought to have served ritual or processional functions, though their precise purpose remains debated amongst archaeologists. The Monktonhall Junction cursus survives as cropmarks and earthwork traces visible in the landscape, representing an important element of the Neolithic ceremonial geography of the Lothian region.
