Offa's Dyke: Chirk Castle Section is a linear earthwork forming part of the eighth-century frontier defence constructed under King Offa of Mercia to demarcate the boundary between English and Welsh territories. The dyke in this location extends north-eastward from Castle Mill near Chirk and survives as a substantial bank, representing one of the most impressive surviving stretches of the monument. Built during the late eighth century, this section demonstrates the scale and engineering ambition of the project, which extended for approximately 150 miles along the Welsh border. The earthwork's survival in the Chirk area reflects the changing landscape of the region and remains a significant archaeological testimony to early medieval territorial organisation and construction methods.
