Old Soar Manor is a fortified medieval house located near Plaxtol in Kent, England, and represents a rare surviving example of a 13th-century knight's residence. The structure dates principally to around 1290 and comprises a solar tower with adjoining domestic chambers, built to a sophisticated plan that reflects the status and comfort of a prosperous medieval landowner. The stone-built tower, standing approximately three storeys high, features windows and architectural details characteristic of late 13th-century domestic architecture, whilst the remains of associated outbuildings demonstrate the complexity of a medieval manor's layout. Old Soar Manor survives as a monument to the development of secular domestic architecture in the High Medieval period and illustrates the physical expression of feudal landholding and knightly society in late medieval Kent.
