Potholm is a palisaded settlement located approximately 850 metres east-north-east of Potholm in Dumfriesshire, Scotland. The site comprises a substantial timber-palisaded enclosure, characteristic of Iron Age settlement practices in southern Scotland, dating to the later pre-Roman Iron Age. The palisade represents a significant defensive or demarcatory structure typical of the period, reflecting patterns of settlement organization and territorial control evident across the region during the first millennium BC. Such enclosed settlements provide important evidence for understanding late prehistoric community structures and land use in south-western Scotland.
