Scapa Flow wrecks of four German High Seas Fleet cruisers is a group of submerged vessels sunk in the waters of Scapa Flow, Orkney, during the First World War. The four cruisers—SMS Köln, SMS Karlsruhe, SMS Kronprinz Wilhelm, and SMS Graudenz—were scuttled by the German fleet on 21 June 1919 following the armistice, as German crews chose to sink their own ships rather than surrender them to the Allied powers. These wrecks represent significant material evidence of German naval capability and the dramatic conclusion of the war at sea, now lying on the seabed where they have become important archaeological and diving sites. The vessels constitute a preserved historical record of the High Seas Fleet and remain under protection as scheduled monuments, with several having been partially salvaged or broken up during the twentieth century.
