Stonehouse crannog is an Iron Age to Medieval artificially constructed island settlement situated in Wigtownshire, southwestern Scotland. The site comprises a crannog, a form of prehistoric and historic settlement built on or in water, which served as a defended domestic residence and possibly a place of status for its inhabitants. The structural remains, preserved within the loch deposits, represent evidence of human occupation and engineering capability spanning from the Iron Age through the Medieval period, indicating prolonged use and reuse of the location across more than a millennium. Such crannogs are significant archaeological monuments for understanding settlement patterns, material culture, and defensive strategies in early medieval Scotland.
