Taprobane is a post-medieval palisaded enclosure located in Berwickshire, in the Scottish Borders. The monument stands on bedrock formed from the Reston Group, a geological formation dating to the Early Devonian period, consisting of conglomerate and interbedded sandstone that provides a firm foundation typical of upland sites in this region.
Palisaded enclosures of this period were defensive structures defined by wooden stakes driven into the ground, often associated with agricultural settlement or temporary occupation during the sixteenth to eighteenth centuries.
