Edward I besieged Caerlaverock Castle on the Solway Firth during his 1300 Scottish campaign. The small triangular castle was garrisoned by 60 knights and men-at-arms. The siege lasted two days and was commemorated in a famous Roll of Arms. The fall of Caerlaverock secured Edward's western approach into Scotland and showcased his siege engineering.
