The Battle

History & Significance

As Wyatt led his diminishing rebel column through Southwark and across the Thames toward London in early February 1554, his advance guard clashed with royal cavalry at Knightsbridge. This skirmish demonstrated that the city was defended but also that Wyatt could still move forces. By this point however his army was dissolving and the Knightsbridge action was among the last fighting of the rebellion before his capture at Ludgate.
