History & Significance

A small Scots force surprised and defeated a much larger English army in three separate encounters in a single morning. One of the most remarkable Scottish victories of the Wars of Independence — largely forgotten because it came between Wallace's defeat at Falkirk and Bruce's triumph at Bannockburn.
