The Battle

History & Significance

After Warwick retook Norwich, Kett led his host down from Mousehold Heath onto the flat plain of Dussindale on 27 August 1549, believing a prophecy that the common people would triumph there. Warwick's professional force, including German Landsknechts with firearms, devastated the rebels on the open ground. Up to 3,000 rebels were killed in the battle and subsequent pursuit, ending the Norfolk rising.
