The Battle

History & Significance

Wyatt's Rebellion was intended as a four-pronged rising: Wyatt in Kent, Suffolk in the Midlands, Courtenay in the west, and Carew in Devon. Only Wyatt's Kent rising came to anything. Suffolk's attempt to raise Leicestershire failed almost immediately — he was reportedly hiding in a hollow tree when captured. His capture and execution on Tower Hill ended any hope of Princess Elizabeth being placed on the throne before Mary could marry Philip of Spain.
