The Battle

History & Significance

As Edward I s forces secured the Harlech rock and began construction of the new castle in 1283, Welsh forces attempted to disrupt the building works. The rock was assaulted by local Welsh resistance seeking to prevent the completion of what would become the most strategically placed castle in Edward s Welsh ring. Construction troops were protected by a military garrison while Master James of St George supervised the building programme.
