History & Significance

Gnaeus Julius Agricola advanced through Yorkshire in his second campaigning season, consolidating Roman control of the Pennines and Vale of York. He established or expanded forts at several locations including Eboracum and Isurium Brigantum (Aldborough). His march northward through Yorkshire established the road network and garrison pattern that would define Roman Yorkshire for three centuries.
