The Battle

History & Significance

The first great act of Boudicca's revolt. Camulodunum was the Roman capital of Britain and home to the hated Temple of Claudius. The Iceni and Trinovantes razed it — a destruction layer of ash nearly half a metre deep is still visible in excavations. The Ninth Legion's relief force was simultaneously ambushed and destroyed; the infantry annihilated.
