The Battle

History & Significance

The first Roman military operation into what is now Wales, recorded by Tacitus. Governor Ostorius Scapula pushed north-west from the Midlands into the territory of the Deceangli of north-east Wales (modern Flintshire/Denbighshire). The tribe offered limited resistance. This opened the path to the more dangerous tribes — the Silures to the south and Ordovices to the west. Location is estimated from the tribe's known territory.
