History & Significance

A dazzling Scottish tactical success during the darkest period of resistance between Wallace's execution and Bruce's coronation. Three separate English columns were defeated in sequence as they moved through the glen. The victory briefly revived Scottish morale and forced Edward I to recognise that Scotland could not be permanently pacified by conventional force alone.
