History & Significance

The Covenanting army besieged and took Edinburgh Castle in the Second Bishops War campaign, effectively removing the last Royalist stronghold in Scotland. Its surrender gave the Covenanters complete control of Scotland and strengthened their negotiating position with Charles I.
