The Battle

History & Significance

After the death of Rhodri Mawr, his sons competed for control of the southern Welsh kingdoms. Cadell ap Rhodri established himself in Seisyllwg (which became Deheubarth) through a combination of military action and elimination of rivals. Welsh annals record violence in the south in the 890s. Cadell was the grandfather of Hywel Dda. Location estimated near Llangadog which was within Seisyllwg territory.
