The fall of Harlech to Owain Glyndwr in 1404 was the greatest triumph of the Welsh revolt. The seemingly impregnable Edwardian castle — supplied only by sea — was taken and became Glyndwr seat of government, where he held his parliaments and received foreign ambassadors. Its capture symbolised a functioning Welsh state.
