The Battle

History & Significance

In his sixth season Agricola crossed the Forth and penetrated the Caledonian heartland between the Highland massif and the Sidlaw Hills. Roman columns advanced up Strathmore while the fleet raided the east coast. Caledonian resistance stiffened dramatically as the tribes recognised the existential threat. The Caledonians assembled a confederation under Calgacus and struck first — attacking the Ninth Legion camp at night.
