The Battle

History & Significance

After the fall of Leicester and the death of Aethelflaed, Edward personally took control of the reconquest. He captured Stamford, one of the Five Boroughs, and built a new burh on the south bank of the Welland opposite the Danish borough. The Chronicle records the Danes of Stamford submitted to him. Edward also received the submission of the East Anglian Danes and Danish forces as far north as the Humber during this campaign season.
