The Battle

History & Significance

Lambert Simnel's Irish-German army under the Earl of Lincoln and Martin Schwartz landed at Piel Island near Barrow-in-Furness in Lancashire on 4 June 1487. The choice of landing place allowed them to march through the Lancastrian heartland of northern England, seeking to attract Percy and Stanley supporters who had been ambivalent at Bosworth.
