History & Significance

Frontinus completed the conquest of the Silures in his third and fourth seasons. Moving into western Glamorgan and Gower, he cornered the last major Silurian warbands and destroyed them in a series of engagements. The surviving Silurian population was relocated to the new civitas capital at Venta Silurum (Caerwent). The tribe that had defeated four Roman governors was finally broken after thirty years of resistance.
