History & Significance

The Simnel rebel army crossed the Trent near Newark shortly before the Battle of Stoke Field. The Trent crossing was the last significant geographical obstacle between the rebels and Henry VII's army concentrating to the south. Henry VII was advancing from Nottingham and the armies converged near East Stoke.
